Wisdom Wednesdays: Herbalist’s Bible – Goldenseal

“A wise man ought to realize that health is his most valuable possession.” – Hippocrates

Today we will explore the links between herbs, astrology, tarot, and other esoteric correspondences. Underlining the hyperlink text is some ear to the ground knowledge I’m passing along to those interested and/or curious.

It’s been a very long time since I’ve flipped open in my Herbalist’s Bible. I went today as a mesh of Wisdom Wednesday’s and Tarot of the Day Thursdays operating my magic through bibliomancy landing right on Goldenseal although my first tries were not so satisafactory. First I was looking at instructions on evaporation followed by recipes for nut mixes particularly the spicy kind.

The snack nut mixes fell under a chapter on our circulatory system. I honestly try to avoid much of these more sometimes antagonistic topics for what it’s worth as it simply triggers too many in society who have strange opinions, biases, and pedestals they jump on to shout from.

Rather I’m trying to read between the lines as to why I wound up there on my second go at bibliomancy. Third time was when I finally landed upon an actual herb to write about.

I am guessing I landed there due to the correlation of the Leo birthday and lunar landscape tomorrow being that the chapter explains the importance of fats, fiber, and antioxidants to our heart, arteries, capillaries, etc. and as I noted Leo rules the heart as well as the spine.

Goldenseal as a Jupiter correspondence makes sense because my palmistry and references to my ring are synchronicities I can work with at present. All studies that I’ve previously written and explored extensively, but won’t be linking to today.

I digress though today we’re going to learn about Goldenseal. If you’re interested in previous Herbalist Bible blog posts I’m going to leave them directly below for reference so that you can easily reference them.

Herbalism Exploration:

The immense vines and leaves of the sweet potato plant have finally begun to sprout flowers. I noticed the first flower on my birthday yesterday.
Beautiful purple and white reminds me of Morning Glories. I had no idea that sweet potatoes even flowered so I’ve learned something new.

Sure enough these are in fact part of the Morning Glory family instead of nightshade.
We have only a few sunflowers left in bloom. Most were harvested for seeds or left for the birds to eat from. Some seeds will be saved for re-planting or feeding birds at a later date.

Goldenseal has a correspondence with Jupiter while also being helpful in rootwork rituals. We use this kind of ritual as a way to harness the energies of the fifth planet from the Sun, largest in our solar system, to work against Saturnine influences while also enhancing spirituality.

Jupiter has a direct correlation to the patriarchy through the act of fatherhood as well as the political arenas. The purpose of rootwork or even Root chakra balancing is that it helps to purify the liver and blood/circulatory system.

These plants are meant to provide feelings of warmth and contented relaxation. If we’re on the Tree of Life this would be Chesed connecting one to the Divine Masculine, higher states of consciousness, and encouraging leadership qualities of success based upon beneficence.

Astrologically Jupiter rules Sagittarius as well as Pisces in some schools of thought although I prefer to assign Pisces to Neptune. It is here that we wish to contact a person’s inner sense of justice, ideals, and morality. We explore long distance travel, foreign affairs, higher education, the legal system, and the urge for freedom while focused upon humanitarian/protective roles.

The Asian systems place Jupiter as Guru/Brihaspati or the Great Teacher and the element wood. All of this looks remarkably familiar if you follow my blog regularly even with the xeriscape and Yin Yang in our garden. As I’ve said I tend to lean more Jupiter, but it was in Leo when I was born on my Western/Tropical chart.

Ironic that in Vedic astrology Guru/Brihaspati is in the Ashlesha nakshatra. I should probably go learn about this. After all the index finger in palmistry or Jupiter finger is how one leads life.

I had to spend time re-supporting tomato vines which were beginning to fall over due to how tall they have grown for our romas. I believe they need nitrogen to help them get larger.
We have a secondary peanut plant growing in the wildflowers besides the now two in what was the carrot bed due to the squirrels in the neighborhood bringing peanuts from someone who is feeding them.

These plants have grown very large. The garlic chive is preparing to flower which usually makes honey bees ecstatic and also in the lower right is some basil.

With reference to the lunar landscape of tomorrow we will find Jupiter within Aries at 8° which for myself is my natal 6th House on the Western/Tropical wheel which is largely empty yet my Vedic/Sidereal would posit this to be 7th House with Chiron the Wounded Healer. We could explore this degree in a wee bit further just to have it as a great reference to the current astral energies we are currently aligned to.

Goldenseal which is an American native belonging to the buttercup family is used abundantly in the eastern United States deciduous woodlands. Vivid yellow rhizomes make the inside of this plant have a suitable reason for its given name. The seal relates within the given name to the decorative seals previously used to stamp warm wax onto envelope flaps.

Native Americans widely utilized this plant for gorgeous golden yellow dye introducing it to European settlers for therapeutics. Now protected due to over harvesting goldenseal in the 20th Century and beyond is legally protected becoming a top selling herbal supplement advertised to improve digestion, heal illness, and enhance our immune system.

Woodland goldenseal is well known as a social medicinal within several pharmaceutical companies. Scientists at the University of Chicago recently discovered that this herb works actively against Helicobacter pylori strains one of many germs that can cause diarrhea. This now becomes a need to investigate its use for deadly Giardia and Entamoeba histolytica strains.

Roughly 20% of the world’s populace is chronically infected with Giardia and approximately 50 million are infected with the amoeba E. histolytica making studies of goldenseal and other berberine containing plants vital. Salves and ointments containing goldenseal are also beneficial to skin infections and psoriasis treatments. As an effective mouthwash this plant will also treat canker sores and mouth ulcers.

Commonly one can use this herb by taking a capsule each day or taking a 2 to 4 mL tincture twice or thrice each day. Topical ointments and salves should be used as instructed by directions or doctor’s script. The main precaution for this herb lies in uterine contractions and it will be unadvised to use during pregnancy.

There may be drug interactions so always tell your health practitioner if you’re taking this supplement/herbal remedy to ensure there are no contraindications.

I’m uncertain of the yellow flowers, but the orange one is most certainly a zinnia.
Feels almost like a Skittle’s commercial!

While the following article is not specific to the circulatory system, but is rather to do with Reiki’s benefits to the endocrine system as a a Master certified Reiki practitioner I wanted to include this today as a PDF. I love that Reiki also helps with the nervous system particularly the parasympathetic system given my experiences on Cipro, gabapentin, and tramadol previously written about.

The stories I could tell about these experiences such as is it not weird that as I’ve said five months after two rounds of Cipro I tore my left ligament 75% needing surgery and still have nueropathy. I mean all these little puzzle pieces do form a picture after all despite the risks of any surgery.

The black box warnings that came late on script instructions via the FDA or those fighting for a cause because pharmaceuticals deny the links or pay to hush those telling the FDA to issue dire warnings/educate the masses!

Then the after impact of being on gabapentin and tramadol in terms of what both did to me for two months including losing consciousness more than once and nearly getting hurt passing out as well as leading to the cause of suicidal ideation I experienced/survived.

These topics dovetail back to my mom’s journey with Levaquin and pneumonia circa January 2022. These are all tied in and I encourage others to locate these blog posts through the “search/calendar” function in the sidebar; look for Asclepius. Go read medical journals about these prescriptions or even check out articles on being floxxed including Hormones Matter.

I mean gabapentin is also stripping one of I believe calcium and causes dry mouth as a side effect so shortly after I had two failed molars in my lower left. One was extracted and the other a root canal/crown! Thanks! Ultimately I can not remember or source the material. Some drugs increase calcium in the body which is also not beneficial. Instead what is essential is moderation in all things.

Forewarned and properly armed with knowledge will make you a wiser and better advocate in the allopathic system or medical control grid that seeks to supposedly heal, but in fact can do a lot more harm than good. We have a broken system that manages dis-ease not necessarily healing or curing for I do believe they think no profit is to be made in a wholistic and healthy populace when you can have a lifetime patient who is always sick.

Most prescriptions provided by doctors have been given to me with the doctor fully aware the risks and contraindications. I’ve instead had to become my own advocate and warrior relying back upon what I learned working in medical malpractice law firms. Then paying this forward to others willing to listen and learn from me/other’s hardships fighting against those who wish to silence anyone who speaks.

You see 3/4 of humanity has cognitive dissonance, and when cornered I can catch people including doctors making Freudian slips suddenly not conscious they just admitted to the knowledge of the risks and still prescribing what might be unwise to give out.

I have encouraged everyone to use etymology and get to learn their language context before they become even more ignorant. For example, pharmakeia should be understood better especially the second definition for the unsuspecting and naive. If you want answers start asking some questions! Don’t be unwise. Or maybe the reference in the etymology to poisoning.

I’m closing this out with a look at the energy of Jupiter as notated above astrologically so that my writing is not a soap box rant or depressing. Knowledge and education are power so use them to your benefit.

This degree appreciates the past and the lessons it continues to teach. By accepting what has gone before without regrets one develops an attitude which helps others to take a more positive approach to their lot in life. Freedom from history and wholehearted embracing of the process of change teaches others to love themselves more and to continually let go as they move forward.

The Chandra Symbol for this degree is “A double headed eagle, the heads face in opposite directions.” The eagles signify power. There is the power of youth with naivete as well as the power of old age with wisdom. When attachments are let go of all regrets concerning the passage of time fall away for although something is lost something else is gained.

This is the seed of Libra signifying the mystery of relating to our many selves unfolding over time which is the marriage of past with future. Work with guardian angel Achaiah and daimon Aamon.

Daimon Aamon corresponds with the Eight of Swords, Moon, Cinnamon, and Gemini. Connections to the deity Amun are found here. This fire daimon of the Summer Solstice or Solstitium wants one to be safe and happy while helping one find their soul tribe. Aamon will help you digest any emotional discomfort and let it go.

Essentially if you want to create alliances this daimon is recommended. You may find references here to the Ogdoad. The Lionsgate begins with our current lunation. It in fact does also reference our 12th initiation which in numerology can imply service to a higher calling for those who can hear their inner voice while responding to Earth’s needs.

This year it encourages us to manifest our highest intentions while sharing our naturally born gifts or insights with the world. Mycenaean kings erected representations of lionesses as an emblem and symbol of power to honor the Divine Feminine through Hera.

The Lionsgate is often on 8/8 of any year and can last through mid August. The tie in being our spiritual sun Sirius when the Sun in Leo makes alignment generative of a very high frequency in the 3D. Now is the ideal time for abundance rootwork with time spent outside, utilization of solar herbs, and a revitalization of your goals.

“I changed the computer background to a lizard. Its now a Monitor.” – Anonymous

This fixed star is upon Alpha and Beta Lacerta in the Lizard. The name is in reference to the Lacertidae family of lizards taken from Spanish lagarto or Latin lacertus (masculine) and re-spelled as lacerta (feminine). Lacertus in Latin referenced the upper arm or fascicle of muscular fibers found here.

Very little is otherwise really described of this fixed stars meaning. I’d like to posit the above might relate to our need to balance our internal Divine Masculine and Divine Feminine to achieve wholeness, harmony, and balance.

Work with Rainbow Hematite expressing that the combined elements of fire and air as seen in the Magician are essential for new starts, new drive, and forward momentum. Focus on your I Am as being the genesis of receiving blessings for all the hard work that you do. The affirmation is I am determined, driven, and look forward to a new breath of fresh air.

Have a brilliant Wednesday as well as the rest of the week. I will be busy at my part time cosmetology job awaiting news on job interviews for full time employment. If there is any changes to my schedule I will update here in an interest to properly balance my time management. Sending you lots of love! 💞🤗

We have received a new diagnosis for mom from the podiatrist that might include benign growth/tumors of the feet. It just never ends…

Teach Me Tuesdays: North Node and South Node

Sanskrit Karman – Act, Action, and Performance

When discussing astrology whether it is tropical or sidereal both take into account a fictional or imaginary planet or node. For me personally I believe a lot of time could be spent here alone in study. On tropical astrology it is widely different than when I look at sidereal actually for myself. While it may seem as if I suffer self absorption in how often I study my own charts it is quite the opposite, and my explanation for my logic may fall on deaf ears. I can not make everyone like me after all. My time spent in studying my own astrology charts as well as those of others is the fact that I believe in the phrase “know thyself” both strengths and weaknesses. It is an actionable goal then to take that knowledge and improve one’s self with it.

I have been itching to do this study/post. It is long, but I believe worth your time.

So if you believe I suffer narcissism I ask you to reconsider your stance and instead question if it is not my desire to better myself that makes me involved in studying my natal charts or the charts of others to help them improve their lot in life. Lately it is very easy to project labels onto others and play finger pointing blame games due to cancel culture. We learn best by example and thus we are picking up negative habits without conscious awareness. Ironic this act shows three fingers point back at the accuser of the wrong. That should warrant caution in who you attack! What I instead see is people slinging snow balls at each other not in an act of play, but in an act of war with severe consequences for those actions and beliefs.

There are are two lunar nodes in tropical astrology acting as an intersection between the ecliptic and the orbit of the Moon. These nodes deal with your spiritual journey of your soul past, present, and future holding the keys to lessons you learned or are yet to learn. This is important within karmic astrology for those who believe in reincarnation as well as those who wish to treat these nodes as their past and future in this present lifetime.

The North Node reveals your soul journey towards growth! Here we find the traits you desire to develop in this incarnation to grow the most. Yet this process is not easy. In the natal chart your North Node indicates the challenges and struggles of the first part of your life which gets easier after the age of 30. The South Node represents your past showing your karmic strengths where you will usually excel as you have a lot of experience already here. You are very comfortable in this placement, but this doesn’t help you grow. Hence why we are told to step out of our comfort zones. You are supposed to focus on your North Node despite the strong pull to fall back on the South Node. The lunar nodes spend in each sign approximately 18 months with an orbital period is 18.6 years. They are directly opposite each other and they are always retrograde.

If I was to look at my mom’s tropical chart and compare it to mine we would find my mom has her North Node in Libra with the South Node in Aries while I have my North Node in Virgo and my South Node in Pisces. I am not going to explore the houses at this time, but perhaps we can explore that at a later time and date. I picked this combination because I was named after my mom and our birthdays are only three days apart. People also have a tendency to confuse us for sisters which is to her benefit as it is a compliment that she still looks younger than her age!

Libra North Node vs Aries South Node:

Libra to Aries Polarity is About Balancing Me and We

Libra Keywords: partnership, marriage, and learning they do not need to do everything alone because others are here and in their life to help them

Aries Keywords: self-sufficiency, independence, and believes they do not need help from others as they are competent in anything they set out to accomplish

My mom’s life mission this incarnation is to learn that her actions and everything said by her affects the people around her while she can be utterly oblivious to the impact this has on another. In fact she may not care how it affects those around her putting her on the wrong trajectory. By becoming entirely aware and completely considerate of her actions and words she will better be able to build the friendships and the partnerships that are necessary to her overall growth in this life.

Partnerships and relationships will not come to her while stagnated in her Aries South Node way of doing things. When she learns to think less about herself and more about the needs of others she begins to attract many people into her life who will help her, bless her, and who make her life so much easier for her to live. This requires her to stop being self-centered and selfish. Which I think she has accomplished.

Virgo North Node vs Pisces South Node:

Virgo  to Pisces Polarity is About Balancing Analytical Mind and The Dreamer

Virgo Keywords: helping those weaker or who do not know how to do things for themselves, teaching, serving others fulfills my life

Pisces Keywords: less structure and routine, less selflessness or sacrifice of one’s wants/needs, and less focus on healing others

This incarnation for me is full of an endless pursuit where I continually serve other people and want to make them happy. With the North Node in Virgo I have somewhat of a selfless quality where I will give a lot of myself to the world around me because I do not find value in myself unless I help others. Structure and routine are vital to me. I need to have structure and routines in my life to stay sane.

Therefore I prefer to plan my life accordingly and may not be spontaneous. For example, if someone calls me up right now to say, “Hey, let’s go have XYZ,” I tend to refuse because the event wasn’t planned ahead of time and I may have something else to attend to. And I do realize this can be really annoying! My apologies again. You will find I apologize a lot also. A habit I picked up somewhere and have not let go of! I have had people point this out to me a lot to make me conscious of the fact.

Now let us look at this through the lens of sidereal astrology. I am born into Magha as mentioned in previous blog posts and this will be of importance for myself with regards to Ketu who I am continuously learning about. It is almost a strange obsession now. And this makes sense for those following my blog who also noticed my mention previously of my studies on Jupiter in my astrology chart. You will see how this shapes my present goals and where I need help.

Wisdom Wednesdays: Making the Unconscious Mind Conscious

The constellations governed by Ketu are Ashwini, Magha, and Moola. Through Vedic astrology we find the North Node is known as Rahu and the South Node is known as Ketu. The South Node or Ketu is often considered to be a point of difficult karma from one’s past life where one has reaped the results of a selfish and egotistical set of deeds in their past. The higher equivalent of Ketu represents a tendency towards moksha or liberation with mastery of secret mysterious knowledge.

Rahu and Ketu are famous for very unexpected outcomes. Both Rahu and Ketu are 180 degrees apart. The professions advised for Ketu include, but are not limited to magician, medical nurse or doctor, and astrologer. Rahu and Ketu indicate our karmic and spiritual influence in the natal chart. I have seen by some allotted the sign Sagittarius as the house of exaltation for Ketu while others believe Ketu to be exalted via Scorpio. Debilitation may be found in Gemini or Taurus. Ketu is considered strongest within Jupiter and known for spirituality.

Any person influenced by Ketu will be gifted with spiritual achievement with strong interests towards religion and secret awareness of supernatural powers or paranormal related subjects. These individuals may have great healing power. Periods allotted generally for a Ketu Mahadasha is seven years. When Ketu is placed favorably in any natal chart it brings a lot of luxury, wisdom, and intuition to that individual. If unfavorable Ketu is prone to causing unnecessary depression, lack of concentration, and unreasonable anxiety.

My mom has her Ketu in Aries with her Rahu in Libra while I have my Ketu in Aquarius and my Rahu in Leo.

Ketu in Aries vs Rahu in Libra:

Looking at the Dragons Head or Tail is Like Flipping a Coin

Aries Keywords: self, ego, physical body, perceptions of self by others, and paternal grandparents

Libra Keywords: romantic relationships, business partnerships, equal exchanges between two people, maternal grandparents, nieces, and nephews

Success comes when my mom accepts situations that keep showing up in her life such as a call to action, competitiveness, assertiveness, and leadership gracefully rather than begrudgingly. This is because she is well versed at following her instincts. As soon as she refrains from trying to avoid these situations she will create situations which are peaceful, co-creative, and harmonious! She excels at being tactful, honest, diplomatic, and a stellar mediator. She must learn that action and leadership are to be taken on when required and that one must risk some people not “liking” them in life.

Ketu in Aquarius vs Rahu in Leo:

Looking at the Dragons Head or Tail is Like Looking at an Ouroboros

Leo Keywords: spiritual beliefs, teaching, publishing, broadcasting, short/long distance travel, father, in-laws, and step-children

Aquarius Keywords: communication, listening, learning, work performed with the hands, siblings, neighbors, and cousins

I am that person who knows how to get ahead in society and may seem to others as a quirky scientist conducting bizarre experiments at large. I am more inclined to be laughed at or see my ideas rejected by others who won’t appreciate them or me until years later. Ketu wants me to brood about the collective and networks, but the Universe has a sense of humor and my life always go awry.

You can find me rejected for my contributions thus pushed towards Rahu in Leo where I must shine alone only as an individual. I toggle emotional and intellectual expression and am forced to step into the limelight whether I like it or not. In this role I am to accept everyone projecting their love and hate combined on me.

Do whatever it is I excel at while I embrace my emotional outbursts as the collective will then project their own stuff onto me positive and negative polarity while I have to somehow learn to not take it personally and realize doing this in fact helps to heal collective wounds as I am great at being the example of not allowing my ego to be fed by the opinions of another as I do not suffer much when I am being criticized. Although I believe I need to work on this. I still feel a bit wounded when I am excessively unappreciated or under valued by others! I imagine that is part of being human.

Jupiter is in my 10th House whether it is tropical or sidereal astrology which helps me advance my career. I can have a bright career and become very successful at what I do. I must guard against arrogance and being overly status oriented. I have a tendency towards leadership roles or my life may play out as a teacher or a hairdresser/cosmetologist for examples.

You will find this placement makes me ambitious and career focused. It is also common to find that I will have high moral standards, but as with anything it is best to maintain detachment. Ketu likes to remove certain benefits to keep one in check as I like to call it through liberating them from their ego. Many see Ketu as a malefic which it is not. Ketu simply is a bit of a strict teacher in life and many dislike this while others such as myself grow to love Ketu for the blessings we have received!

Hopefully I did pretty good at explaining these concepts, however, if you have questions please leave me a comment so I can assist you with answers. As I have stated I believe one could study this topic for quite some time and find a wealth of new perspective as long as they remain open minded to accept new opinions in the realm of astrology instead of closed off or threatened by something different.

Wisdom Wednesdays: Making the Unconscious Mind Conscious

The condition of being free from control, restrictions, imprisonment, slavery, forced labor, and excessive government control. The condition of being free to act, believe, or express oneself as one chooses. Do we still live by these principals?

The individual and collective unconscious consists of thoughts, feelings, drives, motives, and reactions of which many of us are often unaware. They influence every aspect of our lives including our mental, emotional, interpersonal, sexual, and professional relationships. Our unconscious also contains repressed memories that in daily life remains beneath our level of awareness.

The goal of making the unconscious conscious or bringing into our awareness the parts of our selves that have been repressed and split off is seen by some as very healing and necessary.

I grew up in a time in America before certain “new normals” were being birthed into the consciousness of many. Therefore I have different world views or perspectives than others which sometimes causes friction in relating. Albeit I spend a lot of time actually trying to not create conflict as I am a very conflict avoidant typology if one looked at my Enneagram as a 9 wing 1. The reason nines struggle with external peacemaking is our foremost concern is preservation of our inner peace. External peace is of secondary importance or perhaps more of a means to an end for us. We are peace lovers rather than peacemakers.

Getting to know a 9w1 looks like this:

For example, one job I worked in retail during my 30s I mentioned how I was graduating college when 9/11 occurred. I was literally finishing my last class and walking to my car as the event unfolded and learned of it from the radio of my SUV. I have family in New York on my step father’s side. My co-worker at the time looked at me and exclaimed “I was in fifth grade when that happened.” And I was struck with the limiting belief that I suddenly felt old; really old. Ignoring all the controversy around this event some family was employed as NYPD and NYFD. Those family members were around Ground Zero not the day of nor involved in clean up, but they were there to physically see the aftermath and tell us about it.

At 16 our family took a vacation to Chicago, Canada, and New York. We flew on a plane to Chicago and drove via rental car into Canada as during that time we needed no passport to cross the border and stayed in Niagara Falls before entering New York. The purpose was to see both maternal and step paternal family as my mom’s family is primarily living in Chicago.

It was at this age that I got to visit Ellis Island and climb the Statue of Liberty to the top level of her crown where the windows were open so you could look out and read the inscription in the book she carries in her hand and breathe in the ocean. And the significance this has on you may not truly sink in till you are older and wiser. When in your 40s life is unrecognizable to you. I say this because of the changes I have seen since my youth. Today our National Park Service mandates masks while inside all buildings and on Ellis Island. This would have been torture to me or my family when we went back then. It was July as my birthday is on the 26th so think of being in a metal structure with no air conditioner or air flow climbing several steps in summer heat with a mask on. Imagine this when family has asthma. The steps get smaller and smaller as you go higher. At the uppermost I believe I remember the stairs spiraling and having to climb with my feet sideways the steps were that small.

One change is that my maternal grandfather, a WW II Pacific Ocean Theater veteran, passed away at which time I inherited the entire history of my families matriarchal records. These records include birth, marriage, death, and cemetery plot information. I inherited my great grandmother’s high school yearbook from 3 years before the Great Depression, a California king oak bed, and a photo of a grandfather from a prior generation who served in the Civil War as a Union soldier in his military dress uniform. And within this the importance of history and immigration since my maternal family ventured to this nation circa early 1800s from Germany and Denmark with a mixed bag in terms of even spirituality being also Ashkenazi Jewish and Protestant Lutheran. I went the route of my step father’s Sicilian culture. Don’t ask? I am still sorting this out.

I was raised with full freedom to learn all religions and to choose whatever I want even to be atheist or agnostic. By my 20s I was Catholic which now I question the choice I made. Looking back having learned other spiritual practices I always question the motivation leading to that moment. A good long hard look that says why?

At age 39 my step father wanted to give me a ring for my birthday. And again with no real research or thought I felt drawn to have a ring for my left index finger since I am a South Paw or lefty. I was given a United States quarter minted the year of my birth. And to anyone who does not dig into symbols this obsession of mine to know myself or others seems banal or trivial until someone explains how the unconscious mind is at play.

I bought a book on palmistry since I am in my 40s now and heavily into psychoanalysis or esoterics. To my wondrous amazement I learned very quickly that this also matched my studies of astrology and Kabbalah. This index finger is known as our Jupiter finger. Wearing a ring here unconsciously emphasizes the meaning of this planet and finger. What does that imply? Well at birth my Jupiter was in Leo 10th House. And this finger can be seen as a Yod as well which is an astrology configuration. The Tree of Life places Jupiter with Chesed. Chesed is a benevolent ruler whose name translates as “kindness/mercy.” It is the power of growth and expansion, stability and extension, and willing to provide structure and stability. Kind of nature this also represents charity and generosity.

I even came across this fellow astrologer’s older entry in my studies not long ago.

Natal Wheel Via astro.com for reference.

One wants to boost their self confidence, take on roles of leadership, and improve their sense of personal power. It is the finger that stands apart from the rest indicating a person who likes to be in the spotlight and has to keep their ego a bit in check at the same time literally. On the dominant hand this ring holds a desire or drive to take action and be noticed for one’s achievements. Jupiter is seen in astrology as the following:

• the higher self
• luck
• abundance
• generosity
• spirituality
• philosophy
• universities
• growth
• morality

Jupiter is not so much about religion as it is widely about faith in life and looking on the brighter side. There are times in life when all you can do is to hope that things will work out for the best of yourself and others. Jupiter is the planet of faith in astrology believing that everything will be good not because of desperate hopelessness, but because it knows deep down that things will turn out right in the end. It’s an unshakable faith that life is worth living and adversity is stepping stones towards a more evolved and fulfilled life.

Would you also like to learn more about Jupiter’s esoteric meaning? Below are two links to information I read a few months ago.

This same finger holds an entirely different meaning in Kabbalah as I was researching my Ashkenazi Jewish roots. In Kabbalah we may begin to see this as the wedding ring finger at one point in time. You can read about this in the links I provide below:

I was essentially looking for lost parts of myself because being in Texas I did not see family very often. That sounds absurd I know. My family did not take trips north to Chicago or New York with me until I was 16. Again when I was 29 post graduate as a licensed aesthetician. We took vacations, but we have not traveled outside of the USA except for Canada and we have stayed down south along the border as I was born in Sunshine State Florida (Clearwater to be exact). So you can imagine for me this search has been more than a little unusual in light of political climes recently as well. If one is not becoming aware of their unconscious or even subconscious it is said they go through life not really active in what they are manifesting or even attracting.

Paternal family is actually complicated. My biological father I have no contact with for personal reasons that I disclose to a select few out of not secrecy, but personal safety given how that divorce transpired for my mom and I. I do, however, know the DNA is Anglo Saxon, Nordic, and an extremely small percent Ethiopian and Middle Eastern. It again also has Ashkenazi Jewish within it as well much like the maternal lineage. And really I did not know any of this until I inherited family records and took an interest in really digging for answers or clues.

Now this little Washington quarter ring has three phrases on it that struck me as important to take note of. These phrases are:

• Liberty

• In God We Trust

• E Pluribus Unum

If we were to translate this symbolism a bit further we would find that Kabbalah tends to view the left as the desire to receive not necessarily for self alone. Reiki actually presents another dimension to this. Kuji-kiri or the Nine Symbolic Cuts for example is seen in Japanese martial arts.

  • (臨) Rin – Power
  • (兵) Hyo/Pyo – Energy
  • (闘) Toh – Harmony
  • (者) Sha – Healing
  • (皆) Kai – Intuition
  • (陣) Jin – Awareness
  • (列) Retsu – Dimension
  • (在) Zai – Creation
  • (前) Zen – Absolute

Kuji-in are created via the gesture of both hands. The left hand Taizokai represents a receptive valence while the right hand Kongokai conveys an emitter valence. The Kuji-kiri performed with the right hand emphasizes the cut of ignorance or Maya (illusion and the deceptive sensory world) through the Sword of Wisdom. According to the belief system of Shingon Mikkyo one would create an opening in the daily world that allows oneself to reach various states of consciousness.

The origin of this is seen by scholars as Taoist not Buddhist. This is also largely viewed as a layman’s practice not found in orthodox Buddhist traditions. Rather you’ll find it within Shugendo, ascetic mountain traditions of Japan, and Shinto. There are numerous variations of the nine original Taoist kuji in Japanese Buddhism. In Taoism the number nine is seen in divination as a perfect number for yang/yo or the “bright side” when determining individual hexagram lines of the I-Ching or Book of Changes. Some scholars suggest that the number nine refers to the nine planets which Taoists believe directly influence human destiny or to the seven stars of the Big Dipper plus the two attendant/guardian stars which Taoists believe to be the gateway to heaven and that each star is a Taoist deity.

These nine hand seals refer to mudra, mantra, and meditation. In this way Kuji-in are seen as obvious influences of onmyodo (the way of Yin and Yang) encompassing all cosmic phenomena and eternity between two polar opposites. There is even a mudra known as gejishi-in (gesture of the outer lion) and its immediate counterpart naijishi-in (gesture of the inner lion) clearly representing this Yin/Yang relation. The two lions are commonly seen outside the doors of Buddhist temples where they stand as guardians against evil and baleful influences. The first lion utters the sound “A” to symbolize the Alpha; all reality and phenomena are said to neither absolutely exist nor non-exist. They arise in dependence upon conditions and cease when those conditions cease. The second lion utters the sound “Un” (Hūm) which symbolizes the Omega; the destruction of all evils summarizing the two basic false views of nihilism and externalism showing them to be false. There is neither real nor unreal.

Why does this even matter? What does freedom look like to you? What does spirituality look like to you? I am asking because I legitimately wish to hear the perspectives of my audience to enrich my own so I am not walking around with limited beliefs. So the floor opens for you to talk to me as well. That ball is in your court.

Is freedom something such as debt forgiveness or a jubilee that evokes a sense of financial freedom? Is freedom from slavery eradication of usury or debt slavery which perpetuates amortization and poverty consciousness? Is freedom the eradication of human or sex trafficking? Would freedom remove social or behavioral engineering that many are victimized by making their course in life a battle against finding and being their true selves?

Does freedom look like my body my choice and to what extreme is this ideology acceptable for a select few while for others bodily autonomy has no place whatsoever? Or what is bodily autonomy because I believe the issue is so much more than achieving abortion rights since I know and live in this body not someone else. Yes I identify as a woman who is proud to be female and heteronormative. Zero offense to others. I am not here to judge you so please try to not judge me either. We need to respect one another’s differences. Is freedom from slavery the eradication of factory farms and the abuse of animals for a food source when they are also sentient life? Is freedom the ability for all to reach moksha or the final liberation of the soul or consciousness from samsara as a means to ending all suffering involved in being subject to the laws and cycles of reincarnation?

Those questions above are the tip of a larger panoply of issues I see some address presently online that make up not just an American world view, but views of global human citizenry. Please leave me comments on this so I can openly hear from others and expand my awareness and understanding. It is my sincerest belief that these concepts are not just an American Manifest Destiny, but may have been unconscious or subconscious destinies that we collectively sought to accomplish and achieve.

I am wondering if we are getting closer or further away from these ideals or if they are in fact the principals of bygone eras and times that to many others no longer hold any values except to a random few who are becoming self aware through the act of introspection, meditation, and study. And maybe for me it is more pronounced due to my Vedic astrology chart. Being born in Magha lunar mansion or nakshatra as a previous blog entry mentioned we have a tendency to hold to our traditions, ancestors including sometimes veneration, and we take a more detached view of life. But I have been grappling with a question for months. Are we entering another Dark Age, are we evolving or devolving, are we regressing? Who owns us mind, body, and soul? What have we sacrificed for security or out of fear of the unknown? The start of this particular decade has given me a bit of a gut wrenching knee jerk shell shock if I am honest. I would not expect for others to really understand this amidst so many divisive realities I have recently been exposed to that epitomize dualistic or extremist value systems as their foundations.

Only one part of my Vedic astrology chart via vedicastrology.us.com for reference.

I won’t be angry by what you share. I may be a wee bit triggered at times when I confront certain topics, but I am learning everyday how to continuously shed my older more limiting concepts in life and move away from ignorance. De-programming is not an overnight process.

PS: I actually have my own astrology software I use on my laptop, but I was composing this entry on my iPhone. We do travel just not always to see family and we have not made it to Mexico nor across the ocean outside of the USA. Some of that includes financial reasons believe it or not. I tend to travel instead vicariously through what others share with me online. And again I empathize and apologize if this was triggering for my audience. My intent is that we consciously and collectively open up discussions in a respectful way to legitimately grow in understanding ourselves. Please remember everyone carries baggage, and we are all trying to presently work through it sifting what we should retain and what needs to be let go of.
